Editor keeps highlighting in gray after running script

Whenever I run a MATLAB script, when I click back on the 'Editor' or highlight text, it behaves differently then what I expect.

I am not able to make any edits to the script, all my highlights are gray, and I cannot copy/paste any highlighted text.

The only consistent method of getting the editor back to normal is to click on another window like the 'Current Folder' or 'Command Window' in order to remove the odd issue with gray highlighting.

I would like to disable this behavior if possible.
