ifft of symmetric data: do I need to provide the redundant input?

Is it possible to lure ifft(X,[],'symmetric') into working on only the non-redundant input?
It seems that the low-level FFTW library used supports this input/output (halfcomplex is the term used there), so it would be nice to be able to exploit it.
