how to extract the high intensity region from the image?

i am in need to extrct high intensity region from the image ....can anybody provide a way to proceed...i have tried imhist function alredy but it fails...plz help me

Do you mean by selecting high-intensity pixels directly or selecting manually on the image the region you want?

See my Image Segmentation Tutorial on my File Exchange: http://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/fileexchange/?term=authorid%3A31862 It does exactly that. The coins are high intensity. It finds them and makes several measurements from them.
