White text with black outline?

Hello,
I'd like to know if it is possible to give text an outline that directly surrounds the text. I know there is a way to draw a boxed outline around the "extent," but this is not what I want.
Any help would be appreciated!

It is not clear to me: Should the outline appear around any character, and then as a rectangle or following the characters shape? Or do you want a rectangle around the complete string, but as tight as possible?

If you could find a system font that does it, something close to this?
h=text(.2,.2,'text','fontsize',50,'fontname','Castellar')
Find a link for "Hollow and outlined Fonts" http://www.fontcenter.com/categories/Hollow_and_Outlined/index.html. Use your own discretion.
