Why am I unable to see a complete filename in the document bar in the MATLAB 7.0 (R14) Editor/Debugger?

In MATLAB 7.0 (R14), I am unable to see the complete filename in the tabs on the document bar. I see the first few characters of the name followed by an ellipsis. I am unable to change the width of the tabs that display the filenames either by dragging them or setting a preference.

This bug has been fixed in Release 14 Service Pack 3 (R14SP3). For previous product releases, read below for any possible workarounds:

The width of an entry in the document bar defaults to 1/8 of the screen width. There is no preference setting for this. However, you can adjust the maximum width if you move the document bar to the left or right edge, either via the Desktop menu, context menu, or by dragging. The new maximum width is retained even if you subsequently move the bar to the bottom or top. The maximum width is retained across MATLAB sessions.
