I always felt that the Matlab logo is straining against the flat constraint of its rear left quarter. So I removed that constraint and took a look at what would happen. Free your matlab, free the logo.

Modelled the surface as a set of weights 4-connected by springs, limited to vertical motion. This model handles the discontinuous derivative much better than the standard wave equation.
