Tools for detecting, revising and analysing breathing events during exercise, and for screening breath-by-breath CPET data for dysfunctional breathing. Cardiopulmonary exercise testing is an excellent diagnostic tool with limited specificity for the breathing problems athletes actually present with: asthma, inducible laryngeal obstruction, and breathing pattern disorders. breathDetective adds three things to a standard CPET workflow:
1. **Breath detection from the raw flow signal** (an alternative to only trusting the cart's own breath-by-breath output) with a point-and-click editor for correcting it.
2. **Breath-shape analysis** of the raw waveforms: peak flows and their timing within the breath, symmetry, concavity, notching, ensemble averages, and non-parametric comparison between conditions.
3. **Dysfunctional breathing assessment** of any breath-by-breath file against published reference thresholds, scored and phenotyped.
This package is meant to complement CPET interpretation, not replace it.
