BTO (Barrel Theory-based Optimizer) is a simple metaheuristic inspired by the wooden barrel idea: the weakest part limits the whole. In BTO, the population is viewed as a barrel, and each candidate solution is a plank. The algorithm improves weak solutions more often using a Barrel Adjustment step. It also uses a small set of good solutions (elites) to guide the search, and gradually shifts from exploration to exploitation. BTO has been tested on benchmark functions and engineering design problems with good results.
