Problems Command Window and Workspace

I've newly installed Matlab R2020b on macOS BigSur 11.1. The Workspace dosn't show any of my variables. If I use 'who' in the command line they are there, however. Other things in the command line don't work though. If I simply type a variable name in the command line nothing is returned. Same if I type nonsense in the command line or a function without any inputs (like 'mean') - no error message is returned. If I type 'help mean' the help text for 'mean' is displayed. I also tried R2021a, same issues.

Any suggestion what is going on?

I played around some more and for the moment it seems the problem is solved. I think the issue was a toolbox I put in the matlab path.
