How to remove shadow from LED light

Hi,I have a question. How can I remove the ambient light of a LED.I just want to retain the central light of that LED to determine its center.This is the image: http://www.flickr.com/photos/48230201@N02/5706940074/in/photostream Thanks for your help.

As in: just those two little circular LEDs, not the piece of paper behind them?

The LEDs are much brighter than everything else. I would guess a one shot lower threshold on the blue channel or the rgb2gray image would provide you with just the lEDs.
