image segmentation and comparision

hello can someone suggest some technique to extract only the tumor part from an image and then to compare the extracted part with some images in my database which looks like extracted part of image and say the extracted part matches with the image in database set if it matches and no if it dosnt match pls help in providing some technique. and if matches show the matching image also. for comparision i tried histogram and size comp techniques but did not work..
