Audio signal processing using external microphone

Hello,

I have been working on the audio signal processing for my final year Engineering project. I have designed the sensor using the mic to recognize the scratch made on the surface of a cardboard. I want to connect the output of the sensor to the computer to process the signal using the MATLAB. I know about recording and processing the audio signal. But I want to continuously monitor the signal. Is it possible to monitor the signal continuously and get the appropriate results using MATLAB?. If possible, please post the arrangement and code required.
