when you purchase a matwork service agreement with your license, does this include security patches/updates?

Yes. Pay attention to the Bell icon on the top right corner of your MATLAB. There will be a reminder/notification when there is update patch available.

In addition, if you filter the Bug Reports for a particular release by Type "Security Issue" you can subscribe to be notified when a new Security Issue bug report is published. [You can also subscribe to other searches, including by product and by keyword.]
