eye and speye in Kron within matlab

Dear all,
I want to ask if
B=[1 2; 3 4];
A=kron(eye(2),B);
and
B=[1 2; 3 4];
A=kron(speye(2),B);
are the same.
It seems that the latter is way faster than the former.
