Help understanding wavelet scatter

Hola. Researching the wavelet scatter functions in matlab. Is anyone able to tell me what these actually mean? In areas of the plot where there is high magnitude scatter, does this mean the signal acutally 'scatters'?

Example - deploy vibration sensors on a beam, the signal scatters when it hits reflections in the beam.

OR does the term scattering mean something else? It could be missleading.
