Stepping Through Text Documents

I have a folder of text documents that I need to step/loop through and tally up numerical totals for certain columns in the text files. How should I go about setting this up? Thank you!

A more specific answer is possible, if you explain what "tally up numerical totals for certain columns in the text files" means. Try to implement the loop over a sequence of files according to the FAQ and post the code, if there are still problems.
