Saving a figure as PDF with latex font

I am using the commands
set(0,'defaultaxesfontname', 'CMU Serif'); set(0,'defaulttextfontname', 'CMU Serif');
to set the font on my figure to one that is the same as Latex. However it changes the font whenever I export as a pdf or eps, is there any way around this? Using 2015b on mac.
