Code for Maximum Intensity Projection

Does anyone know of any code or approach to doing a maximum intensity projection in MATLAB? I'm looking for a simple function that I can include in a GUI. For those who don't know, this type of projection is used in the visualisation of 3D data (e.g. 3D fluorescence microscopy images). Briefly, the data volume is projected on to a plane and each pixel is given the maximum intensity along the projected line through the volume.
