so the default boxplot contains err, a box with a line signifying the mean, and the upper 25 percentile and lower 25 percentile. I wanted to input the 'data points' together with the boxplot, so I can see how they are distributed. Can i do this?
Thanks

Well, you could have just tried it. That is often the best approach. But you may just not know how to use the hold command.
X = randn(100,1);
boxplot(X)
hold on
plot(1,X,'o')
Were it my choice, I might have used a histogram on the side instead. For example, split the window into subplots.
