What is the purpose of producing an image hash of an image in which a cryptographically secure invisible watermark is to be embedded?

I have tried to develop a code using SHA algorithm as the hashing algorithm, along with a DES encrypted watermark.. And while doing the LSB embedding, how would the pixel values be replaced? would the value of the image Hash play any role in it?
