find location of a person in the room?

Hi

I am trying to find the location of a person in the room using one camera, actually, I want to know if it is possible

to divide the room into zones and then find person's location in which zone?

I don't know if this is possible with background subtraction?? or with HOG detector??

It's hard to give specific help without a specific example. Uploading an example image might help. Also post the code you have tried so far. Try to make sure any code you post is as simple as possible so people can follow it.

I am using background subtraction for detection, so can I extend it for specifying the location of a person in the room?? or should I use another detector for that??

And mostly it is all based on what you're trying to do which is abstract without much context. Will you have only single frame, video, how large people will be to have enough features for HOG, etc. in 24 hours or so what have you tried? you're more likely to get a response on Matlab related questions on your implementation than what should you implement.
