I am creating a GUIDE-based GUI, and I want to deploy it creating a standalone app. When I give the executable to anyone else, they get an error "undefined function or variable 'simulink'", which is strange to me considering the deployed app does not use Simulink at all. What could be the issue?

Run a dependency report on it. Go to the Current Folder panel, and click the little down arrow in the title bar. It should show you where and if Simulink is required.

Another thought - do you reference Simulink at all in your startup.m file? Because, little known to most people, the startup.m file actually will get run on the target computer before your actual m-file gets run.
