How to address dataset array column using variable

I need to retrieve values from dataset columns by addressing them using variables, e.g. dataset array:

DS =
    C1 C2
    10 20
    11 21

To get the DS values for C1, I know I can address it by using

DS.C1

However, I need to address it through a variable, e.g.

Ref = 'C1'

Does anyone know of either a direct way or a work around to do so? Your help is very much appreciated!
