how to write excel spreadsheet from table?- Error using writetable (line 116) Could not start Excel server for export. Export to a text file instead.

I get this error:

    (Error using writetable (line 116) Could not start Excel server for export.  Export to a text file instead.)

when trying to export table to excel... please help !!

i have the table in my workspace, and then typed:

writetable(w1,'sample2.xls') %where table name = w1

do i need to add more information?

Information you might want to include:

1. What version of Matlab are you running? (e.g. 2015b)
2. Do you have Excel installed on your computer? This is necessary for writing to Excel formatted files.
3. Are you using Windows, Mac, or Linux?

In any case, you could do as the error suggested and save to another file type.

 writetable(w1,'sample2.csv')
