Accessing Matlab data without MWArrays

We will like to send and receive matlab data without using MWArrays. Can someone point me to any documentation available for this? We will like to do this due to performance and overhead issues.

Reginald - how are you sending and receiving MATLAB data? What is your target or source application - something written in C++ or some other language?

Geoff we are currently using both java and c++. We will use c++ if we get better performance and less overhead.
