how to disactivate automatic expression completion

I find the automatic completion of expression of the matlab editor really anoying: it keeps proposing inadequate completions, often preventing me to write the expression I have in mind by overwriting the wrong expression!
Is there a way to deactivate this functionality (at least until a smoother completion engine is designed), or better, to ask for completion only ON DEMAND, e.g. when I press the tab key?
Thanks in advance for any answer.

The preferences that control this can be found pretty much where I would expect to find them: Preferences>Editor/Debugger>Automatic Completions. Turn off Show suggestions automatically.
