Can I resict emd to evaluated fixed number of imfs?

Hi
I am applying emd on a 1 d signal, as the number of samples in database are different hence its giving different number of imfs. I need to classify the data samples eventually. Can I restrict the number of imfs here? Would it affect the classification?
