Why do I have 2 version installed after update?

I have recently updated from MATLAB R2021b to R2022a and now I have both versions installed on my pc and their folders have different sizes. Can I uninstall the 2021b version? Or it will cause problems if i run code on 2022a?

They are both stand alone versions.

You can uninstall the older version, but shouldn't disavtivate MATLAB license on your computer.
