How is pdepe solving?

Hello,

for my Bachelorthesis i am using pdepe to solve the diffusion equation. But i have to explain too the way HOW pdepe is solving the partial differential equation (numerical? analytical?). Can someone give me a link where there are a few sentences explained to the way pdepe is solving?

At the very bottom of the www page you show above is this reference:

1] Skeel, R. D. and M. Berzins, "A Method for the Spatial Discretization of Parabolic Equations in One Space Variable," SIAM Journal on Scientific and Statistical Computing, Vol. 11, 1990, pp.1–32.

That paper describes the approach used in pdepe.
