I want to update the Java on my MacOS X machine.

To update the Java on your MacOS X machine:
1) Choose System Preferences from the Apple Menu.
2) Choose Software Update from the View menu.
3) Click Update Now.
4) Select the entry for Java, then click Install.
5) Enter an Admin user name and password.
6) After the update is complete, restart the computer if necessary.
If there is not an option to update the Java in the Software Update, then your machine most likely already has the latest update.
To obtain the Java version on your machine, please open a terminal window (Applications => Utilities => Terminal) and run the following command:
java -version
