Information about workspace variables

Syntax

t = variables(w)

t = variables(w,var1,...,varN)

Description

t = variables(w) returns information about the variables contained in the specified workspace object.

t = variables(w,var1,...,varN) returns information about the specified variables. If any of the specified variables do not exist in w, they are omitted from the output.

Display Information About Workspace Variables

Create a set of variables in the base workspace.

a = 1;
b = true;
c = "Hello, World";

Create a workspace object for the base workspace. Then display information about the workspace variables.

w = matlab.lang.Workspace.baseWorkspace;
t = variables(w)

t=3×7 table
    Name     Size     Bytes      Class      Global    Sparse    Complex

Display Information About Specified Workspace Variables

Create a set of variables in the base workspace.

a = 1;
b = true;
c = "Hello, World";

Create a workspace object for the base workspace. Then display information about the workspace variables a and b.

w = matlab.lang.Workspace.baseWorkspace;
t = variables(w,"a","b")

Input Arguments

w — Workspace

matlab.lang.Workspace object

Workspace, specified as a matlab.lang.Workspace object.

var1,...,varN — Variables (as separate arguments)

string scalars | character vectors

Variables, specified as string scalars or character vectors.

Output Arguments

t — Variable information

table

Variable information, returned as a table with a row for each variable in the input workspace. The output table has these columns.

Column Name	Description
Name	Variable name, returned as a string scalar
Size	Array size, returned as a numeric array
Bytes	Memory size, returned as a numeric scalar
Class	Class type, returned a string scalar
Global	Global variable, returned as true or false
Sparse	Sparse array, returned as true or false
Complex	Complex variable, returned as true or false
