Recently I installed Matlab 2013b on my laptop with windows 8.1 operating system. Whenever I open matlab, the fonts look normal, I think it uses lower resolution. As soon as I open MuPAD app or Simulink, the matlab window size suddenly changes and it starts on higher resolution and the font size is reduced. Same thing happens even if I use external monitor. I've attached two pictures, matlab screen shot before I open the app and matlab screen after I open the app. Compare the toolbar strips or command history font size and you can see the difference. The later is so small, that its hard to read on my desktop. I have intel HD graphics, that comes with i7 processor, as well as NVIDIA graphics processor.
Earlier I was using Matlab 2012a, and it never had this issue even on Windows 8.1, and same laptop.
Thank you
-Punit

Bumping this thread as I have this problem as well. The right-click scaling fix only makes everything super big, not any better.. Also tried the new 2015 pre-release, still the same issue. I have a Surface Pro 3 with a 2160*1440 resolution, it also acts the same if i connect an external screen with 1920*1080 resolution.

Another bump here. I get the same sudden change in resolution/font size using Matlab 2015a in a Dell XPS 13 (Windows 8.1), and in my case, it is when calling commands from the Computer Vision System Toolbox.

Right click on your matlab exe icon(you can also do it on icon on your desktop shortcut if you have ), and go to Properties and then to compatibility tab, and select Disable display scaling on high DPI settings.
Check if this helps to an extent.

Running new install of R2014b on a windows 8.1 laptop (4k display) and experienced this issue. 'Disable scaling on high DPI settings' didn't work for me, selecting 'run in 640 x 480 screen resolution' in the compatibility menu returns the scaling to readable. Is this really the only fix?

A combination of this and modifying the font properties in the Matlab Preferences made this situation workable for me. Selecting "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" made Matlab go into a high resolution mode permanently, so the resolution doesn't change when you open MuPad or the Publishing Editor, etc. Changing the font within the program makes your code readable but still leaves you with small buttons.

Hi Punit, from your system configuration, are you using the bootcamp from a 15'' Macbook Pro with duo graphics chips and a Retina display? I'm running MATLAB 8.2 and got the same issue from OS X. And if opened in Windows 8.1, the graphics chips will automatically kicks in and make the fonts super tiny to meet the resolution. Maybe you just have to change the resolution settings from control panel when you use the MATLAB.

There is a workaround now available in R2015a release of MATLAB that partially resolves the issues with blurriness and resizing of the MATLAB Desktop on Windows platform. The workaround patch can be downloaded from Bug Report ID 1054442.

I have this same scaling problem on my Matlab (2014b) which was running in win8.1 and now win10. I loaded that bug. But it didn't help me. Why can it be?

This solution worked for me. In Matlab 2015a, when I opened the report generator, the screen resolution became very high and everything too small. Now working fine.

I have tried the patch and have also tried all the other methods suggested and still nothing, when I open up a Simulink Files all of the windows shrink and I cannot see any of the writing.I really hope this gets sorted out soon.
