I am running MATLAB 7.1 (R14SP3) in a Unix environment via a Neoware X Terminal.
When using MATLAB 7.1.0 (R14SP3) in this environment I receive the following error message :
ERROR: XTEST extension not installed on this X server

This issue is related to the hardware itself and has been reported to the hardware vendor. As this specific brand of terminal contains a Linux kernel without the necessary XTEST packages to use MATLAB you need to contact the hardware vendor at the following address :
Run 'xdpyinfo' to see the capabilities of the X server. The output should look like
$ xdpyinfo -ext XTEST
[...]
XTEST version 2.2 opcode: 145
Otherwise, your X server does not support XTEST.
