Matlab 2013a installation error

I am trying to update my matlab from the 2010b version to the 2013a version. Every time I attempt an installation I get the following error:
"One or more of the following products are required to proceed with the installation:
MATLAB 8.1 (Not available)
You must select a folder where at least one of these products is installed or select these additional products for installation."
If anyone knows what to do about this particular error please help me.
Thanks.

I'm having the exact same problem, except that I had no previous installation of matlab on this computer. I'm using the standard installer, without leaving anything out or customizing it. The error occurs while selecting the folder to use for Matlab, and I'm using the default (...Program Files\Matlab\2013a). Can someone please tell me what I can do? My license has expired so contacting support is not an option. This application installed and runs fine on my previous computer, which runs Windows 7. Thank you for any help you can provide.

I figured what caused the error. I had to download each zip file separately because jre wasn't installed on my computer. However, I had not downloaded all the files, having omitted the help docs, thinking that they wouldn't be necessary. I went back and downloaded all the remaining files and then the installation went smoothly.

TMW provides free installation help and you should contact them directly.
Are you using the graphical installer? Are you selecting "install all". It like you are not selecting MATLAB from the install list.
Also note there is no way to update MATLAB. It really just installs a new version while leaving the old version untouched.
