Why do I get a "decompression failed" or "Unable to expand" error when downloading R2018b Update 4 on Mac?

Why do I get the following errors when downloading R2018b Update 4 on Mac?

Decompression Failed

OR

Unable to expand

Decompression Failed

This error occurs in Safari if the "Open Safe Files" option is on. When the download is completed, Safari will attempt to unzip the archive but return this message.

To resolve this issue; # Disable the "Open Safe Files" option in the General tab of Safari settings # Use a different browser

Unable to expand

This error occurs because Archive Utility, the Mac unzipping tool, is unable to unzip packages over 4 GB of data.

Use the following terminal commands to unzip the update zip archive to the downloads folder.

~/Downloads/R2018b_Update_<enter update #>_macOS_package.zip -d ~/Downloads/R2018b_Update_<enter update #>
