Power Electronics Control Design Using Active Disturbance Rejection Controllers (ADRC)

Overview

PID controllers are widely used in motor and power converter control applications, but achieving good control performance can be challenging due to uncertain or unmodeled system dynamics and external disturbances, such as sudden load changes or input voltage fluctuations. To address these challenges, you will learn about Active Disturbance Rejection Control (ADRC), a model-free control technique that estimates and compensates for these uncertainties in real-time. ADRC has similar memory and throughput requirements as a PID controller, but with less tuning effort, it provides comparable disturbance rejection performance.

Highlights

Through demonstrations, you will learn how to:

  1. Design active disturbance rejection control using a prebuilt block in Simulink and test its performance in simulation.
  2. Generate code from the block and deploy on real-time prototyping hardware and embedded microcontrollers.
