Package MATLAB Programs for Excel Users

MATLAB Builder EX provides tools for each step in the packaging workflow. With these tools, you can:

  1. Develop and debug your code in MATLAB
  2. Test code behavior in Excel
  3. Package final code into Excel add-ins for sharing with people who do not use MATLAB
Debug your MATLAB code before packaging it to Excel add-ins for distribution.

For integration through Excel macros or VBA programs, MATLAB Builder EX also generates VBA code containing formula signatures.

Deploy to Desktops or Enterprise Servers

You can deploy your MATLAB algorithms for use in Excel either individually to desktops or centrally to enterprise servers. For desktop deployment, Excel add-ins use a free runtime that is installed automatically with your application. When deployed to desktops, the add-ins support all MATLAB graphics.

For deployment to enterprise systems, the add-ins integrate with MATLAB Production Server™ to enable:

  • Centralized updates and management of packaged MATLAB programs on the server
  • Multiuser access to the latest algorithms across Excel sessions
  • Leveraging of high performance servers for intensive computations

Using MATLAB Programs in Excel

MATLAB Builder EX creates Excel add-ins that contain packaged MATLAB code. Integrating the add-ins into your spreadsheet is a drag-and-drop process. The add-ins create new Excel formulas that behave like other formulas—they accept inputs from cells and return results to other cells in the spreadsheet. When deployed to desktops, the output also supports all MATLAB graphics.
