Why There Isn't a Parallel MATLAB

By Cleve Moler, MathWorks

Today, MATLAB® users worldwide use Parallel Computing Toolbox™ to parallelize MATLAB applications and solve computationally and data-intensive problems with multicore processors, GPUs, and computer clusters. In 1995, however, technical concerns led to considerable skepticism about the viability of running MATLAB on parallel computers. In this article from that year, Cleve Moler explains the reasons behind that skepticism.
